The Opportunity of Adversity
(excerpted from several of the short answer responses that I’ve used for previous applications)
In retrospect, I am far from the stereotype of an excellent student and fail to meet many expectations. However, a role model of mine once said that “life has a way of growing you up, making you see things in different lights, testing your resilience and commitment and dedication to reaching your goals”. And this year, at 16, I was trifled by my situation and fell dishonorably into a person I despised.
Though my personal life would remain private with the exception of my closet friends and immediate family — I do not have any regrets. The internal struggles is not something that I would take away; it has become apart of me, and of who I am. I realized that I was so flawed by default, and that the only way to overcome this battle was self reflection. As a kid, I lived by my own words: “I cannot change the world, but I can change myself. I cannot change the people, but I can inspire the people. I cannot change mankind, but I can make a difference” but now the true monster I had to deal with, was myself.
I could not change my situation, but I am still alive today. I know that I am nowhere near healed from my mental wounds, and it is only going to get harder from here. Even the best people (whether students or adults) stumble and fall. However it is when we pick ourselves back up and continue to fight the never ending war, that we truly succeed.
Looking back, I have gained valuable insights on the human virtues of perseverance, courage, dignity, honesty, and last of all, humility. It is these philosophical weapons that are truly valuable in our human arsenals, and the true education I have wrought. I plan to attend CQU’s immersion program for their international class in China, and would be finishing high school this year as junior. I’ll be majoring in International Economics and plan to return for graduate school in International Relations. My dream is to work for the United Nations and hope that this risk, would pay off in the future and set me apart from the ever growing application pool. I aspire to be an American minded diplomat with a well formulated understanding and education of both cultures.
The world is too big to leave unexplored.

So I came home from school to see my 7 year old sister putting skittles with my antidepressants, I went up to her and asked “Hey what you doing?” She looked at me, smiled and said “Skittles make me happy so I put them with your medicine that makes you happy so you can be extra happy.” That was the cutest thing i’ve ever heard.

Who Inspires Me?
There are three kinds of people in the world that inspire me. One, those who live in adversity and can rise above their pre-set limits and maximize themselves to their fullest potential. Two, those who dedicate their lives to enrich the world by sacrificing their own. And three, those who strive to make a positive difference.

Anonymous asked: you and alex were my fave terra couple hehe ^_^ do yall still talk? …”if you have a relationship, the counselors would know” LOL..looking at the “yall” ^, I think I know who this is. Hm, we’re still good friends :) And once in a while yeah!

Anonymous asked: I heard you got really sick :( are okay now? You still seem so amazing to me. You're literally in every club, org, on and off campus. Stay strong <3 The stress, and combined with other health problems, and etc — made me weak emotionally, mentally, and physically.
But thank you :) It’s a new semester and new year, and though the timing could not have been worse, since it’s my junior year, I hope to turn things around.

Anonymous asked: Why are you getting medical treatment? If you don't mind saying... Unfortunately I cannot tell you — maybe if you weren’t anonymous or asked me in person. But what I can say is……..Only just a few months ago, I never imagined that any of this would have happened or turned out the way it did.

Anonymous asked: are you feeling okay? : ( I can’t say everything is getting better, but right now, I’m just trying to take it one step at a time.
It’s still hard to balance medical treatment, school, and extra-curriculars but I’m really just glad that it’s winter break. A time to rejuvenate on sleep, try to make up as much work as I can, and to prepare myself for a new semester.
I haven’t written much lately — if at all, but thank you for asking :)

Hey there! :)
If one were to ask of my personal perception, I'll have to say that I view myself as -- both a humanitarian at heart and a student activist by day. "I cannot change the world, but I can change myself. I cannot change the people, but I can inspire the people. I cannot change mankind, but I can make a difference." Those are the words I live and breath, and though sometimes hard to uphold: a goal I strive to become. As U.S citizens, we are equipped with the luxuries of education, the gift of free speech, the joys of clean water, and the spoils of a democratic system. A system that enables us to both grow as a nation, but a system, that also empowers us to help others. In truth, we all have something to contribute to society, and it is our job to fulfill that responsibility.
